Servo Motors: Can a counter be connected in order to count feedback pulses?
Question 8: Can a counter be connected in order to count feedback pulses?

Answer : To count the encoder's feedback pulses, both phase A and phase B must be counted using an updown counter (two-phase type, 90 degree phase difference). The shaft of AC servo motors tend to reverse direction and vibrate slightly at the moment of stopping. Consequently, feedback pulses cannot be measured accurately by means of a counter that uses only phase A or Phase B.
